If your Modus server appears to be having difficulty sending mail because it cannot resolve IP addresses but using nslookup (see below) resolves the same addresses, it might be that Modus is using a different DNS server than the one you are testing with.
To detemine what DNS server IP address Modus is using:
- In the Console, go to Logs – Properties – Operation Flags and enable DNS Transactions
- There is no need to stop/start any services
- Go to the ModusMail or ModusGate \ Log directory and search for a file called OPRyyyymmdd.log
- Open the file with Notepad and search the log for "Sending DNS request via UDP to..." and this will show the DNS server IP address
To change the IP:
- Right-click My Network Places and select Properties
- Select the particular connection (if more than one) and click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Properties
- Enter the correct DNS server IP address(es) and click OK
- Using nslookup:
- In case you're not familiar with the nslookup utility or its commands, this is a command line program used in DOS. For details about the syntax to use and how to read the results, please see Step 2, in Troubleshooting Mail Delivery Problems.
