How-To: Change the SMTP Parameters for the Customer Support Feature

Product: All

Version & Build: 4.0+

Background

Acting as a mail client, the Help > Support feature connects to Vircom's mail server and sends an email to support@vircom.com.  Customers can use the feature to create a new ticket or to respond, with additional information, to existing tickets.  Some users may not be able to use the support feature if an outbound connection to Vircom's mail server is blocked or if the administrator prefers that the mail client portion of the support feature sends the email to another (e.g. internal) SMTP server.  The various SMTP parameters can be changed through the Registry.

Changing the Modus support feature's SMTP parameters

To change one or more of the support feature's SMTP parameters, add and configuring four value keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Vircom\VOPMail:

1. SendSupportEmailAddress
- Key type:
String Value
- Explanation: The e-mail that will receive the support information, by default it is set to support@vircom.com

- Example: support@vircom.com

Note: We highly recommend that you do not add this key.  The support feature is intended to send to notify support@vircom.com.  Changing the value to anything else means Customer Support will not receive the email.

2. SendSupportSMTPServer
- Key type: String Value

- Explanation: The smtp server used to send the e-mail from the console.
- Example: odin.vircom.com

3. SendSupportSMTPPort
- Key type: DWORD value
- Explanation: The port used by the destination smtp server, by default port 25 is used.
- Example: 25

4. SendSupportMaxLogSize
- Key type: DWORD value
- Explanation: The maximum size in kilobytes for each log selected that we be sent with the email
- Example: 200 (in KB)
