Background:
Office 2007 files are being scanned and blocked, even if the attachments are not malicious. The file extensions affected are *.docx, *.pptx and *.xslx. Files opened in Office 2007 that were created using previous versions of Office (therefore converted) contain *.bin files. These *.bin files are included in Modus’ list of Forbidden Attachment extensions.
Modus can be configured to detect forbidden attachments within compressed files. This setting forces the scan to decompress zipped files and other compressed file types to look for virus content.
Workaround
Vircom proposes the following to resolve the issue:
- Do not scan compressed files
- Go to F.A. – Preferences – Options and remove the check-mark at Scan for forbidden attachments within compressed files
- Remove the *.bin extension from the list of forbidden attachments
- Go to F.A. – Properties – Forbidden Attachments
- Expand the Strong tree and click on *.bin
- Click on Remove and then on Apply
- Important: Messages are still being scanned for Viruses even though the *.BIN, *.COM file extensions were removed in the F.A list
