Problem:
The Spam or Virus definition update process is interrupted or becomes corrupt, leading to repeated invalid update reports or errors in the Console
Solution:
Delete the Registry keys:
- Spam definition update keys
- Open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Services\MODUSADM\Parameters
- Delete the following keys:
- SieveAdaMCDefsList
- SieveUpdateLUD
- SieveUpdateLUSN
- Virus definition update keys
- Open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Services\MODUSADM\Parameters
- Delete the following key:
- UpdateLUSN (or McAfeeUpdateLUSN)
- Open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Services\MODUSCAN\Parameters
- Delete the following key:
- ViriiDefinitionsVersion (or McAfeeViriiDefinitionsVersion)
Force a manual update in the Modus Console:
- Spam
- Go to Spam – Properties – Auto-Updates and click on Update Now
- Virus
- Go to Virus – Properties – Auto-Updates and click on Update Now
Note: Do not wait for the automatic update process to update the definition files after deleting the registry keys. Deleting the Registry keys will not trigger the process. The process will continue to follow the settings configured in the Console. This will delay the updates and leave your system unprotected.
On occasion, when these keys are deleted, the spam and virus settings could become disabled. Verify that they are enabled prior to running the manual update.
